As an artist, and a black person, I feel there’s a deeper message than what we see, just looking on the outside. I can’t tell if the guy’s actually black but I’ll take a wild guess and say he isn’t.
Asking a black guy to do blackface probably wouldn’t end well for obvious reasons. Objectively, I think the cake and blackface is more metaphorical than anything else.
Each person takes a slice of the “cake” while blatantly ignore the painful wails of the person they’re taking it from because of their greed. Some of them were even smiling.
The United States’ prosperity was forged from work that African slaves were forced to do. I appreciate the message it’s trying to send, but not necessarily the method.
